Lectura de sambata dimineata
“It is easy to forget now, how effervescent and free we all felt that summer. Everything fades: the shimmer of gold over White Cove; the laughter in the night air; the lavender early morning light on the faces of skyscrapers, which had suddenly become so heroically tall. Every dawn seemed to promise fresh miracles, among other joys that are in short supply these days. And so I will try to tell you, while I still remember, how it was then, before everything changed-that final season of the era that roared.” ― Anna Godbersen, Bright Young Things
Doar asa reusesc sa trec in agenda cateva date clare, so here they are.
At Men’s Fashion Week, Back to Babbitt – “The view reflected in the classic plaid shirts and mismatched trousers, in the varsity jackets, granddad cardigans and prom wear, is exactly the small-town view that Americans since ‘Babbitt’ have tried to get away from. Now, for a host of reasons, these sentimental styles are seen as attractive as a truck farm in Vermont. And, in contrast to slick luxury fashion, these friendly styles can create a sense of diversity — real or not.” In NY Times.
Haute Couture fact files – „Get clued up about the lavish world of couture ahead of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week autumn/winter 2013, which kicks off with Atelier Versace on Sunday night.” In The Telegraph.
Interview: Raf Simmons – “The term ‘interzone’ is difficult to define. It is a phrase that has become increasingly associated with the work of Raf Simons and one that suggests his work exists within a realm that goes beyond any one specific thing – certainly beyond the confines of fashion.” In Dazed Digital
The 50 best fashion and beauty websites– „You don’t have to trudge up and down the high street to track down the latest trends, you can do it all from home. Here are the top bookmarks for savvy shoppers.” In The Independent.
Giorgio Armani: the billionaire fashion designer – “Armani started late: he was 40 when he founded his business in 1975 – but it grew rapidly. ‘In the beginning it was down to courageous and slightly mad intuition, rewarded by good luck.” In The Telegraph.
How to break the heavy packing habit – „If you are traditionally a heavy packer, the premise of traveling light may be tantamount to asking a chocoholic to renounce cocoa solids. Unlike the aforementioned, there’s no such thing as cutting back gradually.” In Wall Street Journal.
Lessons from the stylish: Cath Kidston – „Back in 1993 when she started the business, flaky painted furniture seemed like a radical riposte to the soulless minimalism that had begun to invade life. I was at Vogue, and Ikea’s bossy commands to chuck out our chintz was exactly the trigger we needed to embrace retro florals. ” In The Telegraph.
Bert Stern dies at 83 – „An elite commercial photographer who helped redefine advertising and fashion art in the 1950s and ’60s, Bert Stern is perhaps best known for his painfully raw and poignant photos of Marilyn Monroe, taken for Vogue six weeks before her death.” In NY Times.
The pre-fall collections: a guide – „Just entering stores, the oddly named pre-fall collections are chock-full of great clothes to buy now and wear when weather-appropriate.” In Wall Street Journal.
The Investment dresser: quirky sunglasses – „Crazy sunglasses are the perfect way to add some humour to your wardrobe.”. In The Telegraph.
