How sad is that?

Keep it masculine – “Men have more style than ever to choose from. Luxury labels from France’s Hermés to American icon Ralph Lauren are opening stores dedicated to men…  — Gucci, Prada, Dior, Chanel, Burberry — dress men too.” Pe Wall Street Journal.

The seductive cargo pants – „The obvious question is, if you think your thighs are so godawful, Armstrong, why torment them with skintight khaki cargo pants? Because these are Houlihans.” Pe Times UK

Crafts, clothes and clout – „What Sundance did for indie film—showcasing it for a bigger audience—Web sites like Etsy are doing for the little guys of design. And starting this week, you can turn on your television and tune into IndieShop”. Tot pe Wall Street Journal.

Why American Apparel is going out of fashion – “After years of headlines about sexually charged advertising and accusations of sexual harassment on the part of the company’s eccentric founder, Dov Charney, American Apparel looks like it is going down the way it came up: in a blaze of controversy.” In The Independent

For sale: Gucci, Prada and Chanel, never worn – „The wealth of clothes he consigns these days is, in part, a hangover from the economic boom, when many women shopped à la „Sex and the City,” gobbling up clothes, shoes and accessories. Like many consignment and fashion re-sellers, Mr. Garkinos has watched his business flourish during the economic downturn, as some women sell clothes to raise money—and others search harder for bargains.” Again, pe Wall Street Journal.

Florence reasserts itself as a fashion city-state – „Long before Milan became a fixture on the fashion calendar, shows in Italy were held in Rome. Florence eventually stole Rome’s thunder; then Milan, in turn, swiped the shows from Florence. Now there is a move afoot to restore the primacy of this Renaissance city as the key destination for both fashion designers and buyers.” Pe NY Times

Africa’s influence in the fashion industry – “A long way from the World Cup epicentres of Johannesburg and Durban, catwalkers in New York and Paris are already marching to an African beat… chiming with the prevailing mood makes economic as well as sartorial sense.” Pe Financial Times

Mickey Drexler: retail therapist – „“No one understands shopping like J. Crew’s Mickey Drexler. With three successful turnarounds under his belt — Ann Taylor, Gap and now J. Crew — the ‘merchant prince’ is on a roll.” Pe Wall Street Journal.

A winter break is now the longest season in fashion – „Now, like so many other things once celebrated in a Slim Aarons photograph, (a) resort (collection) has become a huge commercial entity. Some two dozen designers presented collections over the last few weeks.” Pe NY Times

A tender tome of art and heart: an artisan’s book tells the story of Goyard – “A pair of white-gloved hands opens the mini-trunk and lifts, with the utmost tenderness, an object swaddled inside. What is this hidden treasure about to be revealed?”
